King Micah was the former leader of Avernum and its first crowned King.

He has three sons: Prince Chevyn, Starrus (who later became King after his father's demise) and another unnamed son (who died not long after arriving in Avernum).

History[]

Before his exile in Avernum, King Micah was a rebel that helped other people fight against The Empire's tyranny (along with a few other people), attacking Empire outposts and smaller cities, becoming well-known among the citizens and the Empire militia. Eventually, he was betrayed by one of the people in his group, resulting in the deaths of the other members. The Empire did not wish to make him a martyr, so on Emperor Hawthorne's order, he was banished to Avernum along with his unnamed son.

Once they arrived there, his son died from an unknown disease not long after.

Micah was one of the first explorers of Avernum (formerly known as The Underworld). He was joined by The Five. With combined efforts, they defeated many of The Underworld's monsters and, most notably, imprisoned Grah-Hoth in a prison, called Skaragath. Then they formed a subterranean nation, which they called Avernum and its citizens known as Avernites, living in peace for many years.

King Micah ruled Avernum alongside The Council, which is comprised of the Mayors of every city, 6 in total (5 after the destruction of Cotra in Avernum 2). He played a crucial role in Avernum 1 and Avernum 2, giving the key quests of the games.

Many years later, Micah retired from his position. It is well known that his older son Chevyn was going to be crowned King after his father's death, but due to his mental disorder he was never formally crowned by the Council. So the title was passed to his youngest son Starrus who ruled in two games- in Avernum 4 and Avernum 6.

Fate after the events of Avernum 2[]

After the defeat of Garzahd, King Micah remained King of Avernum, but was not seen again in Avernum 3. However, he was mentioned by several people.

After the events of Avernum 3, it is hinted that Micah died after retiring.

It is unknown how he died, but it was confirmed that he was around 80 years old (or even more, though it is unconfirmed). It is presumed that he died due to his old age or a certain disease.

Trivia[]

  • Out of the two sovereigns who have ruled Avernum throughout the course of its two trilogies, Micah is deemed the oldest, having ruled Avernum since the start of the series and keeping his role for many more years than his son Starrus- the current King of Avernum.
  • Although Micah's children are confirmed to originate from a royal heritage, Micah himself does not draw the same royal blood from his own parents, having served as a simple rebel and vigilante before he was exiled in Avernum, only becoming a King after the imprisonment of Grah Hoth and the creation of the subterranean nation.
  • It is unknown whether Micah is capable of using magic or not. If he somehow does, he has never had the chance to prove it.
  • Micah is the second member of his family to die.
    • In addition, he is also the only named member who falls in this criteria.
